Recently refurbished with still more to come, CAPTAIN’S Mojacar is now in its 16th year since Jonathan Eldred, “Jon” took it over, having run several other restaurants in Mojacar during his 28 years here in Spain.
CAPTAIN’S Mojacar has had various styles from the time Jon took over. A music bar; a sports bar, a bar/cafe and now it has evolved over the last 3 years into a restaurant serving tapas, snack meals and full a la carte with a reputation as one of the best restaurants in the area.
The restaurant has obtained a certificate of excellence for the last 3 years from tripadvisor
Overlooking the sea from its raised position, the terrace offers open air dining in the summer while it can be enclosed during the winter.
The restaurant also has 3 tables outside for smokers.
Jon has been cooking since his days at school after which he went to catering college in Buxton where he studied the full range of Hotel Management and Catering. Via The Britannia Hotel in Manchester and The White House in Prestbury, Jon then took over the Skillet Restaurant in Hayfield for some years before coming to Mojacar where he had spent holidays for 12 years.
Jon has a passion for freshly prepared food.
There are no frozen or packet meals at CAPTAIN’S Mojacar! Growing some of his own vegetables and using fresh herbs and using local suppliers, Jon produces dishes to satisfy all tastes. There is always a freshly made range of 10 tapas which constantly change and the menu has 9 starters, 5 salads and 21 main dishes to choose from.
The restaurant specialises in fresh fish bass, bream, plaice, salmon, langoustines. whitebait, calamares and many more. His own special dish is Trois Etoilles made with strips of fillet steak, chicken and prawns in his own sauce. As Jon’s wife, Hind, is from Morocco, there is naturally a Moroccan influence on some of the dishes and tapas like Black Eyed Peas and with Jon’s travels to Istanbul, he uses spices and ingredients to produce Turkish style tapas such as Dolma and Turkish Lamb but with his own twist.
Hind makes the apple tart with cinnamon and raisins which is many customers’ favourite and soon there will be homemade ice creams with flavours such as mango. This year Jon is helped in the kitchen by Steve, and as usual out front Jon’s father Mike and Hind will be serving the customers.
With menus in English, Spanish, French and German and with staff speaking those languages, most customers are catered for. There is also a special children’s menu including chicken, fish, meat and pizza.
With a varied wine list including wines from Australia and Germany, plus a fine local red from the Alpujarras near Almeria, there is an extensive drinks menu with many premium gins, vodkas and tonics.
So why not enjoy a dining experience at CAPTAIN’S Mojacar overlooking the sea with good food and a relaxing drin
